The inews24 Skype sessions: Episode 1: Kabaka Pyramid

The Skype Sessions with ilo Episode 1: Kabaka PyramidIn an exclusive Skype interview, Kabaka Pyramid offers us an intimate glimpse into his very versatile musical world.     (You’re a Spanish speaker? Click here: http://www.reggae.es/2014/06/20/video-entrevista-a-kabaka-pyramid/ English? Stay here!) Whether it is his collaborations (yes he collaborated with Tarrus Riley, Sizzla Kalonji,….), his songs on the EPs (up till now he has two titled “Rebel Music” and “Lead the Way”), others released on Dubplates (on such ones that are named and made in a “Channel One Style”), riddims (to name but one: The Revival on the Militancy Riddim however this one explains the whole still current “Movement” initiated by Protoje, Chronixx,….), video clips (yes the complete lyrics to “Liberal Opposer” are available as well on his youtube page) or even life performances (such as the one that was part of the Easter Show organized by the brilliant team of Reggaeville, when we could witness Sara Lugo joining him on stage in Munich for their beautiful “High & Windy” song and further jamming with Gentleman and Gappy Ranks), there’s something about this Jamaican artist that makes you wanna know and hear more from him…

And we nearly do not believe ourselves but we actually do get what we want, namely know and hear more from Keron Salmon -that is Kabaka Pyramid’s birth name- as he reveals that his new tune is going to be part of a new riddim with “about 6 tracks on it” soon to be released by Notice Productions and featuring the likes of Jesse Royal, Dre Island and Iba Mahr.

We speak to the singer-songwriter just after his “Lead the Way” European spring tour -during which he participated in the afore-mentioned Reggaeville Easter Special in Germany and further visited his fans in Spain, the UK, and many other European countries- and just before his summer tour, which he is about to start off in the US (see dates below).                                                  And when we think about the musicians return to the European festival season, we cannot help it but inevitably last years images come to our minds: Protoje spontaneously invited his “bredda” Kabaka on to the Main stage in order to perform their collaboration “Warrior” together at Spain’s Rototom Sunsplash. Well but simultaneously the performer made use of his stint on stage in order to introduce the crowd situated in Valencia to his favorite football team, the Catalonian-based Barça. Well, realise from the first minute that this is a man who stands up for what he believes in. Vivid in our minds as if it just all happened yesterday… And a year on, the band leader is invited to headline his own show together with his group The Bebble Rockers on Rototom’s Main stage. We are extremely proud of this leader and can’t wait for the show on August 16th (reggae.es has already announced that date!). But this is only one of his European festival dates!

We even found out that Kabaka Pyramid and the Bebble Rockers are still available for bookings for midweek shows and we will keep on announcing all of his dates. If you are a promoter or a club owner and want Kabaka Pyramid to make a statement in your club, simply get in touch with his management for bookings.
